"Second Class" takes to the street thanks to Flying Leaps

The Brexit vote was a vote to go back. But back to what? Britain no longer has an empire, it no longer rules the waves. We are lead by a Prime Minister who voted to remain and now tries to lead us out. Are we heading to a future where we will all travel second class?

This is the thought that was used in influencing my latest work in collaboration with Flying Leaps. "Second Class" is making it's way around the street of the UK and is also available for purchase via Flying Leaps.

The Participation Revolution

Finally got my hands on the book, The Participation Revolution, written by my good friend Neil Gibb. Absolutely delighted to see my work “When the Revolution Starts” on the cover, which was done in collaboration with an US illustrator and political artist from Texas, Todd Kale.

Book description:
"It can at times feel like everything is falling apart. And there is a reason for this. It really is. We can either see this as an end or a beginning. In this uplifting and essential guide to a bewildering future, Neil Gibb claims that we are witnessing the birth of a new world, in which passive consumers are being replaced by active participants. We are at one of those rare points in human history, he argues, when a whole way of thinking is on the turn, just as it was in the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution. Those who catch the swell early are the ones who prosper. Those who don't get it will be left behind."

Want to grab a copy of this limited edition book, please email Neil Gibb directly.

Natives - Solo Show at Urban Picnic

My second solo show of the year. This one I'm very excited about as I'm playing to my home town - in Saffron Walden. I moved out here in 2014, setting up home and creating a studio. This is where my art career started.

‘Natives’ is a retrospective of my art, shown for the first time together in one place. The work explores the themes of power and greed that are confronting many of us - both at a global level and home.

Private view Friday 1st December, 2017.
6-9pm
R.S.V.P Urban Picnic.

The exhibition is will showing until the 24th December, 2017.

Blisters - the Paperback Edition

The long-awaited Blisters show is back after 3 years away and it as promised it was bigger and better!

This year’s show was based on books! With 50 artists drawing inspiration from their favourite book, quote or author to produce a limited edition screenprint!

My piece was inspired by the 1954 novel "Lord of the Flies" written by Nobel-prize winning British author William Golding. The print builds on one of the sub-themes of the book by describing the end of innocence as the boys are transformed from boys to savages.’

Available exclusively from Print Club London

Where have the natives all gone

I was commissioned to do a new piece for a new gallery/bar opening in September. Located in Southbank, I was taken by how the area has radically altered in the last 10 years. The dusty old streets are being replaced by shiny new skyscrapers and the usual crowd of branded coffee shops, ubiquitous retailers and supermarkets. Southbank has a proud tradition of working class residents, but over the years has been gentrified replaced by upper middle class.

When the Revolution Starts

Finished work on a new piece that has taken many iterations to get to here. I'm pleased with the result.

When the Revolution Starts’ was inspired by ‘Liberty Leading The People’ by Eugène Delacroix – a classical painting depicting the French Revolution. In the original the main character is bare breasted, stripped of her dignity, but defiant. All around her are corpses. The message is that she would rather die than give in. We live in a time when again people are taking to the streets. They seem defiant, angry. But would they really die for the cause? Or has protest become a new form of entertainment?

This was collaborative piece working with US artist Todd Kale who provided the beautiful sketched background.

The print will be on sale online soon. Please get in touch with me if you'd like more details.
